The first thing that catches your eye when you enter a room (empty or not)?
As Diana Vreeland famously said, “the eye has to travel”. There should be something in a room that catches your eye immediately. It could be a great piece of art prominently displayed, an amazing light fixture, or a beautiful sofa. In addition, the scale of the furnishings is something I always notice immediately. The space planning of a room is a critical element of interior design.
What about your inspirations. Where do you go for stimulation?
I’m inspired by art and architecture. I love to travel and visit art galleries, museums, and see the local hotels, restaurants, and shops. I’m inspired by quality and try to walk the fine line of staying on trend without being “trendy”. The best designs stand the test of time.
What is the trend of Winter Park interior design and what do you see for the future?
We have seen a big influx of modern homes with open floor plans in Winter Park and throughout Florida over the past decade. I think in the near future we’re going to see a return to less open floor plans, as people have been spending more time in their homes and need a bit more separation to allow for multiple work and recreation spaces for adults as well as children. We also will see more attention to outdoor living spaces for both family living and entertaining.
Why did you want to be involved with Vilasa?
I love Winter Park, and people want to be within walking distance to shops and restaurants, as well as parks and other outdoor public recreational spaces. Vilasa offers that proximity to the best of Winter Park!
